Our Core Values
Our produce is grown in a water and nutrient solution, in which we use organic fertiliser. We aim for our produce to be of premium quality. We do not use any pesticides or contaminants, and everything is filtered and tested before fed into the system.
Through using hydroponics, we can grow produce all year round, providing more high quality food, even when you would think it is out of season!
With a growing population, food security is an issue that looms close at hand. By 2050, it is predicted that our population will hit 9.1 billion, alongside a huge increase in urbanisation. It is so important to ensure that we can meet the food requirements through investment in new methods of production, and to educate people as to why they should make the change to sustainably sourced and produced food. Support of this change in the industry is vital, and education will play a critcal role in making the switch.
Sustainable development means “development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” (Our Common Future, 1987, the World Commission on Environment and Development)
Only 2.5% of water on Earth is freshwater with most of that being held in ice and snow. From the remaining 0.3%, the agricultural industry accounts for more than 70% of global freshwater withdrawals. Our increasing need for water, through growing populations and economies, is leading to competition over a scarce supply. Hydroponics contributes to lowering the amount of the world’s most needed resource, by using up to 90% less water than arable farming, and using a recovery system so we are not wasting a single drop.
For us, it is not enough to just grow sustainable produce, but to be sure all parts of the business meet this same standard. One significant benefit of hydroponics is that it can be grown close to market. So at FourEverGreen, we aim to keep the sale of produce to local markets only, and choosing not to export to various countries around the world. By doing this, our carbon footprint is lower, our food is fresher, and our delivery more efficient.
